The Health Nut

My Goal: to live as healthy a life as possible. Here are things that inspire me to do just that; to remember that I'm in this for the long haul, not just for some special occasion, and that being healthy is a journey and not a destination. A marathon and not a sprint. But enough metaphors. I want to eat great food that nourishes my body and spirit and find the joy that getting up out of bed can bring.

DAY TWO

1) It is just a bit past 11:00pm and I am going to sleep.  So I didn’t quite make my goal of 10:30 but considering the fact that the last week or so I’ve been going to bed at like 1:00am, this is significant improvement.  I know that I just need to be consistent with this choice, and soon enough I will be tired at 10:00-10:30 and will be ready to sleep, which will make waking up and working out in the morning all that much easier.

2) Don’t go grocery shopping on an empty stomach.  I went down to Whole Foods and although most of my choices were good, I inevitably got too much food and I really feel like I need to stop wasting it.  I buy too much produce (or enough I guess and I just don’t eat it) and I feel awful wasting it.  So I’d like to try to buy only a little produce at a time and just go shopping more, but to make sure to eat some almonds or something before I go, so my stomach doesn’t do the shopping instead of my head.

3) My reason today is strength.  In my ballet class, we did a little bit of conditioning and I was a bit shocked at HOW out of shape I feel.  To me, being fit is more than just weighing a certain number… it’s being able to do the things you want to do efficiently, feeling strong and capable of anything.  I want to be able to take a bikram yoga class without getting so tired and do 25 boy pushups and run 3 or 4 miles and know that my body is ready to go anywhere I need it to. I want to feel strong!
