The Health Nut

My Goal: to live as healthy a life as possible. Here are things that inspire me to do just that; to remember that I'm in this for the long haul, not just for some special occasion, and that being healthy is a journey and not a destination. A marathon and not a sprint. But enough metaphors. I want to eat great food that nourishes my body and spirit and find the joy that getting up out of bed can bring.

DAY ONE

I decided that each day I want to reflect on my nutrition and exercise choices, so as to continually be improving and becoming healthier all around.  Each day I’m going to write 1) something that went well (a choice that I feel good about), 2) something that I’d like to work on for the future (a choice that I’m aware may not have been so great), and 3) one reason why I want to be healthy (to continue to motivate myself, even when it gets challenging).

So to begin:

1) Today was the first day in a few weeks that I didn’t eat any sort of sugar sweets.  I seem to have a tendency to jump back and forth between having no sweets for a while and then indulging in way too much, every day, for a while.  It’s funny because I know that when I have more than a few bites of something that sweet, I end up feeling heavy and lethargic and my blood sugar levels plummet that sometimes I fall asleep after having dessert.  And so I think I’d like to get back to the place where I say no to all sweets, even if it’s just for, say, the month of April.  I want indulgences to be just that: little treats to splurge on every once in a while, not something that you eat in mass quantities, every day.  And today I was able to fight some small cravings, so yay me!

2) I feel asleep at like 7:00pm and woke up around 10:00pm, and am now writing this at almost midnight.  My sleep schedule has been all wonky lately and I really am not a fan of it.  I like to work out in the mornings, but I’ve been so crazy trying to catch up on sleep or going to bed late that I’ve missed workouts :( and just overall feel a bit off.  Sleep is very important for me.  Well, for everyone, but I guess when I’m disciplined in my sleep patterns and make myself go to bed at a decent hour, get 7-8 hours of sleep, and then get up and get going, my days seem to go smoothly and I have so much more energy.  So tomorrow night I am going to go to sleep at 10:30 or 11:00 at the latest, no matter what else is going on.  And I’m going to try these next few weeks to sticking to that so I can correct this cycle.

3) My reason today for wanting to be healthier is ENERGY!  When I eat good-for-me foods, and exercise regularly, and sleep enough, I bounce off the walls.  I love that I am a very energetic person, and of course a great deal of that comes from taking care of my body.  When I am reckless with myself, I don’t feel like I can truly be me, since I’m fighting to stay awake rather than enjoying my life.  So here’s to getting more energy. <3
